Last night, I attended a cocktail reception at The Room at The Bay, to preview the 2011 Spring/Summer Collection of Thakoon. I got up close & personal with Thakoon Panichgul, the Thai born, New York based designer, who is known for blending distinctly different influences into his work with a talent for intricate feminine details and a recognizable wit in his designs. Perhaps why he has such a high-powered fan base including Natalie Portman, Demi Moore, America Ferrera, Sarah Jessica Parker and the U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, who wore a floral dress by Thakoon on the evening Barack Obama accepted the 2008 Democratic nomination for president. No big deal.
Thakoon and I chatted about the world of blogging and the influx of blogs in Canada and about the now powerful influence blogs have on fashion and trends. We joked about Twitter and his lack of updates (yes, he controls his own Twitter!). I encouraged him to tweet more often to keep his online fans inspired. And then we discussed Seoul, Korea, my homeland and apparently all of the fantastic shopping I’m missing out on out there. I must take a trip out there one day soon. I’ve never been. It’s always so refreshing to meet down to earth talent amongst a world of fashion pretension, as it is to visit my favorite Room at The Hudson’s Bay. I look forward to the next event.

This Thakoon knit cardigan is so fabulous. It might just have to be mine.
