Friday, October 22, 2010…LG Fashion Week Toronto
Last night, I attended several shows for the Final Day of LG Fashion Week in Toronto and one of the lines I was most looking forward to seeing was the Amanda Lew Kee Spring Summer 2011 Collection. The 21-year old designer Amanda is a friend of my FY boy JayStrut and he always raves about her edgy designs so I finally got the opportunity to see first hand and I’m impressed, not only with the details in her designs but also with the creativity of her presentation.
The show began with a mini movie, as the models made their entrance in the dark wearing bright blue lipstick and positioned themselves on a platform in the middle of the runway. I was sitting with her proud family & friends right in front of the platform so I snapped some great photos and video. The line consisted of shredded long dresses (my favorite), minis, two piece separates and mix of sheer and structured fabrics with a futuristic feel, all with a romantic color palette of nude, grays, salmon and silvers.
In her gift bag, I received one of her studded nude leather bracelets and a bag of multi-colored popcorn, which she later explained to me, were to represent the exact colors she used in creating her line. Cute idea and I’ll definitely be stacking the bracelet on my wrist soon. Well done Amanda. I can’t wait to see more.
I hung out with the 21-year old designer and her crew of super cute girls and boys last weekend and they are a fun, inspiring & talented group of up-and-comers in retail, photography, promotions & design. They are who we need to be watching and the ones will be shaping our bright future in fashion & entertainment. xo

Day 2 of LG Fashion Week, I attended the Line Knitwear S/S 2011 Show and brought my girl Nebby along and met up with my FY boy JayStrut. Nebby always adds a fun little twist on life. If you know her, you know what I mean. If you don’t, check her out at The Segment or keep up with her entertaining tweets.

I wore this asymmetrical cutout dress by Mason, an LA based brand founded by designer Michelle Mason. She has an awesome edgy collection of dresses and fashion forward pieces that I started collecting a couple seasons ago, so you’ll be seeing a lot more Mason around here. I didn’t even get a chance to take my jacket off, so you can’t really see the amazing cutout detailing of this dress, hence I’ll surely be wearing this again one day soon.

OUTFIT: Mason dress (The Room at The Bay), Comme des Garcon ruffled blazer, Tiffany key necklace, Acne Admire Wedge Boots, Chanel flap bag, Armani metal fringe earrings, Gucci Watch, Links Bracelet, and misc jewelery from Fashionably Yours.

I got this BCBG Max Azria vibrant yellow dress at the beginning of the summer and finally got a chance to wear it, to the Holt Renfrew & Bustle Show on Day 1 of LG Fashion Week. I’ve been wearing a lot of black lately, so I was in the mood to brighten things up a bit.

I threw on this Gucci scarf / shawl which is my absolute favorite thing I bought from Holt Renfrew’s Private Shopping night. There was only one available and I pre-purchased it because I just had to have this amazing creation!! I have an extensive collection of silk and knit scarves but what made this one so special, was the super soft silk & wool blend, subtle print and strategically placed fox fur detail, making this a super versatile addition to my fall/winter wardrobe.
This was the shoe to guess for this week’s $100 SHOE WEEKLY FY GIVEAWAY!! Follow @Shopfy & @GetJanet for your chance to win $100 CREDIT at Fashionably Yours. Click photo for details.

Tuesday, October 19/2010…I attended Day 2 of LG Fashion Week, where Line Knitwear made their Toronto debut of their Spring Summer 2011 Collections after showing for the first time during New York Fashion Week in September. Toronto based designers, John Mucat & Jennifer Wells specialize in turning boring knits into wearable, yet stylish and edgy wardrobe staples. The Spring Collection consisted of a mix of macramé, crochet, and prints in a muted palette of neutral khakis, grays and pops of peach and gold. It’s fascinating to see the luxury that Line creates from what began as a spool of yarn. Personally, I have many “Line Knitwear” pieces in my closet that have easily become my go-to item when I need to throw something comfy on without compromising style. xoxo

Monday, October 18 /2010, I attended “Bustle Rocks the Runway” in Toronto, where Bustle Clothing presented their Spring Summer 2011 Collection at LG Fashion Week. Shawn Hewson & Ruth Promislo, the husband and wife design duo of Bustle, really know how to put on a spectacular show, so it’s one show I always look forward to attending. This year, the music was provided live, by rock band Die Mannequin and opened to what seemed to be one of the band’s guitarists, who was actually a model, who then proceeded to strut down the runway, guitar in hand. Very clever start to a fun show and I was literally front and center of all the action. Bustle did a fantastic job of making preppy manly by adding a touch of rock and roll edge and the women were intentionally androgynous to fit in with the boys. The women were very much out numbered by the men, hence it was just my kind of party.
After the jump, we caught up with Shawn at the after party which was held at Ame (on Mercer St). Fashion week has officially taken off with a bang thanks to Holt Renfrew & Bustle. I’m looking forward to attending a select few more shows this week. Stay tuned.

Whoa! Rock on lol

There’s Renee again, one of the few female models in the show!

Hello Handsome

Ummm, I couldn’t help notice the 2 little pooches sitting on the right of Blake McGrath…lol.

Shawn & Ruth are literally married to fashion. Sounds to me, like a match made in Heaven. xo

Ken Barbie & Asian Barbie lol

On Monday, October 18, 2010, LG Fashion Week officially began in Toronto!! Day 1 of Fashion Week is always fun. It’s almost like the first day back to school after summer holidays. I get to catch up with my fellow fashion friends & peers, see what everyone is wearing and catch a glimpse of what to expect for Spring Summer 2011 Fashion. I rolled through with Jay Strut & my girl Shannae from What Women Want to catch the Holt Renfrew & Bustle SS11 and in between shows we snapped some fun photos.

Toronto’s LG Fashion Week is being held at Heritage Court at the Exhibition Place (100 Princess Blvd.) and makes for the most stunning venue for this years fashion festivities. It’s by far my favorite venue to date, with tons of parking, plenty of room to mingle, lots of seating to rest up in between shows, fun little kiosks like the Barbie & Ken photo booths to snap photos and an open VIP section with open bar and cash bar. This year they even threw in a Ken model to pose with. Super clever idea. Anything to keep the high maintenance crowd entertained. More importantly, this years’ runway is equipped with a massive long runway with several very necessary levels of raised seating to accommodate the long list of fashionable attendees.

One half of the Greta Constantine designer duo…Stephen Wong with supermodel Coco Rocha
Greta Constantine Fashion Shows are always a highly anticipated crowd favorite, of course because of their display of their “accessible luxury line of ready-to-wear womenswear” but also because of the socialite and celebrity crowd they attract, so its always fun to mingle in the crowd of a Greta Constantine event and catch up with old and new friends. And the fact that they had supermodel Coco Rocha walk their runway of their Spring Summer 2011 Show was the cherry on top. It was good times on a Friday night. xo

Fefe Dobson looks fabulous! I dressed Fefe back in the day before her first album even came out and again when she opened one of my crazy Rock & Roll fashion shows during Toronto Fashion Week 2006, so we go way back and it’s always great running into her.

More long time friends…@Rainbow Sun Francks & @Zark Fatah (Maison, Century Room, Blowfish, Hammam Spa, etc etc…I can’t keep up lol)

Adrian Carew is the man the man behind the amazing serpentine hair at the Greta Constantine show, along with the rest of his crew at Hair 2 Inc in Yorkville. He’s also one of my fab customers at Fashionably Yours and popped into the store on Sunday for a visit, did some shopping and sent me this great pic of him and Coco Rocha!! Love it.
