CIRCA, the highly anticipated, one of a kind entertainment venue and nightclub, created by New York City’s Peter Gatien, famed in New York for his awe inspiring drug fueled Limelight, Tunnel, and Paladium clubs of Yesteryear, opened to the public on Friday, Oct 5/07.

“Circa will not just be a spot to dance and be seen, but a cultural hub incorporating art exhibits, hightech gadgets and state-of-the-art light and sound, all presented in a fashionable package. It will be the little black dress of the nightlife scene” -Peter Gatien

Located inside the Festival Hall Entertainment Complex (King & John in Toronto), the four-story, 55000 square foot state-of-the-art space is an arts, music, entertainment, and fashion event space unlike anything else in the world.

CIRCA is home to the first ever KidRobot Room, a room with coloured chalk, giant chalkable robots, little bunny chairs and tables, and overall the entire club was filled with a multitude of visual aphrodisiacs, perfectly condusive to E poppers and hard up coke heads (no offence to those reading) and drinking bottled KidRobot water all night, hence the 6am closetime. Just when I thought the Rave scene was dead…guess I was wrong!

I actually produced a huge Fashion Show @ this venue, the once Lucid Nightclub, a couple years ago…was dope! Got some ideas up my sleeve for this place…

I got back to Toronto Sunday night and before I could get a chance to relax, I got a call from Tony Shellman & Chaka from Parish Nation Clothing in NYC who were in Tdot sponsoring the COMMON/Q-TIP tour. Considering the amount of love I get when I go to NYC, I always feel inclined to be a great host to my NY peeps. We had dinner @ my boy Zark’s restaurant, Blowfish, headed to the concert @ Koolhaus, the after party @ Revival, then Atelier for their HipHop Monday night. A fun filled night, dope concert! So I decided to spend the week in NYC and kick it with some much loved friends at some of my favourite spots, did an insane amount of shopping, had some great eats (Blue Ribbon Brasserie was the hotspot, although I had to have my daily fix of ‘Yellowfin Seared Tuna’ @ Cafeteria).

I got a special invite to a pink carpet event in NYC on Wednesday, Sept 19 from my girl Valeisha (Executive Director of the Hip Hop Summit) for the WEEN LAUNCH. The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) is a coalition of women committed to supporting, promoting and defending the positive portrayal of women of color in entertainment and in society. The event took place at the trendy Bo Concept, an exclusive furniture store on Madison in Manhattan.

Powerbrokers like fashion mogul Kimora Lee Simmons; international music star Joss Stone; Sylvia Rhone, President of Motown Records and Executive Vice President of Universal Records; and Valeisha Butterfield, Executive Director of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, have joined forces to announce the launch of the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN). Kimora Lee Simmons has signed on as the national spokeswoman for WEEN. WEEN is a program of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.

I made it back to Toronto just in time for the much anticipated annual TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival)…Beyond the fabulous flicks, TIFF is known for the 10 days of Red Carpets, Celebrities, Papparazzi, Parties, Gifting Suites, Open Bars, and the extended 4am last calls.
